Second Week - Journal 3
My second week of practicum started with the wrong foot. The first day, Monday, my
practicum adviser arrived there to observe me and I had completely forgotten
about that. Besides that, I arrived late and I waste a lot of time organizing the
materials and everything. In brief, it was a disaster. The next day, Tuesday, I
woke up earlier so that I will have enough time to organize everything and that
day, as I had a class with both second and third grade, I made sure to be on time
and the classes were quite better. However, with second graders I had a small
issue, as I had an activity which required me to use a video-beam and a
computer when I went there to asked for it they were all occupied. For a
moment I thought, what am I going to do? But then I remembered that I had the
material for the activity for the following class so I decided to switch them
so I did it and in the end, students loved the activity.
On Wednesday, I only had a class with second graders. I love those kids.
Those days are funny, because as there are other student-teachers from other
universities and undergraduate programs too, that specific day, I have a little
help with the activities because there are some students of Psychology who go
there to be with the kids and they usually bring additional activities for
students related to the topics I am teaching them so we kind of work together
for 30 minutes but of course, I am in charge of giving the instructions and
guide them throughout the development of the activity. The other 30 minutes I
took the lead and I continued with what I had planned for the day. Finally, my
last day, Thursday, was much better than Monday or Tuesday, for sure. I arrived
super early and the time helped me a lot. However, as the classes are 1-hour
time only, sometimes I can’t finish with the whole activity and that happened
to me today with second graders. Nonetheless, both third and second graders had
fun and learned a lot of English during the week.
Despite
the fact that I had had difficulties with the time, materials and other things,
I’ve felt good. I like the school, the teachers, and, the students for sure.
However, I know I still have a lot of improvement, the experience I had had
with kids and teaching cannot be compared with what I am doing right now.
Because this practicum is preparing me for the professional world which I will
be facing in the near future, even though is scary but I am working hard every
day.
I liked the fact that you recovered from a bad day and the rest of your weeks was pretty good!
