Fifth Week - Journal 6

During the process of teaching I realized that each one has a way and a time to get the complete idea of how to deal and performance as a good English teacher, I am trying to reflect about how the time and the experience would help us to deal with future situations inside the classroom such as plan b, two hours of class or more, and some tasks for student´s because you have to leave the class for any meeting .           It had happened to me all the time, for me it´s really serious to teach something meaningful in my classes and when this situation occurs it is like no idea what to do, first because in my case I have to be updated on the pages of the student´s book and with the syllabus, and also I planned my class but a pop -meeting takes place so I have to think what should I ask students to do meanwhile I am out and also not to make so much noise and disturb other classes. But as I said with the time I learned some ti...

Fourth Week - Journal 5

Today I was checking the homework in the class, I think it is better to do inside the class to clarify any misunderstanding or any question left from the last class. One necessary thing to do it possibly is one monitor and one task on the board, student´s discipline depends on how busy they are, so keep them busy while you are checking. They also really like to participate writing the correct answers of the homework on the board, so I put the numbers of the questions and then number the students fo each question in order to come to the board and write it on the board, then I asked them to compare those answers and raise their hand if there is any comment about , I really emphasize in the way they express themself because they tend to be rude with their classmates. I just correct some of the mistakes and finally practice some pronunciation and motivate them, here is really important to motivate students because it is the sparkle of your class, fo...

Third Week - Journal 4

This week of my pedagogical practicum started by teaching to the students from the second grade. The topic assigned for this lesson was comparative adjectives and the vocabulary was related to clothes. For teaching the vocabulary, I prepared a crossword in which I gave them the descriptions of the different pieces of clothes. I helped students to develop this activity by reading the descriptions and reinforcing some words with body language so that they were able to know what the descriptions were referring to and all the answers were written on the board. Students seemed to like this activity since they claimed that this is a practical and entertaining way to learn vocabulary. When I started explaining the grammar topic, students were confused even though I provided them with a small chart with the rules and some examples different from the ones on the book and on the chart. I think that something I have to change regarding this group is the amount of...

Second Week - Journal 3

My second week of practicum started with the wrong foot. The first day, Monday, my practicum adviser arrived there to observe me and I had completely forgotten about that. Besides that, I arrived late and I waste a lot of time organizing the materials and everything. In brief, it was a disaster. The next day, Tuesday, I woke up earlier so that I will have enough time to organize everything and that day, as I had a class with both second and third grade, I made sure to be on time and the classes were quite better. However, with second graders I had a small issue, as I had an activity which required me to use a video-beam and a computer when I went there to asked for it they were all occupied. For a moment I thought, what am I going to do? But then I remembered that I had the material for the activity for the following class so I decided to switch them so I did it and in the end, students loved the activity. On Wednesday, I only had a class with second graders. I love those kids. Tho...

First Week - Journal 2

My practicum at such started on Thursday, September the 5 th . At first, I was kind of nervous because it was a new environment for me with new kids and also, different teachers who were going to be evaluating me each class. Unfortunately, those nervous were shown in my late arrival that specific day which gave me a very hard time because what I had planned for the class couldn’t be achieved at all. However, I tried to manage the time left to make the most of it and in the end, students were happy. The following week, I only had a class with third graders, so this time I made sure to arrive earlier so that I could have enough time to organize all the materials I will need for the class and it worked. Nonetheless, that day I hadn’t slept very well so I wasn’t feeling that energetic and the students noticed it, but regardless of that, I did my best to make the class entertaining for them. The only bad thing was that at the end of the class when I asked them if they have liked the activ...

Observation Week - Journal 1

During this period of time, I went to observe my cooperator teachers in their classrooms. On the first day, I observed teacher Doris from second grade. She was very happy when she knew there was going to be a teacher-student of English helping her during the semester. So when I entered the classroom all the students were staring at me, they were curious about who I was. Teacher Doris told them I was going to be their teacher of English for a while, the majority of them were happy. After introducing myself, the teacher started with the class. What I could observe during the class was that first, the students’ behavior seemed good only a couple of them were kind of rude with their classmates. Second, the teacher’s behavior and knowledge, she is most of the time patient with the kids but she is very strict. However, she is not competent in English, at all. So I knew that I will have to start with them from the ve...
